TODAY'S DEVOTION: MAKE THANKSGIVING AND HIGH PRAISE A HABIT.
TODAY'S SCRIPTURE. "Taking a good look at them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus' feet, so grateful. He couldn't thank him enough—and he was a Samaritan." (Luke 17:14-16 MSG)
We all have different habits created over time, but one of the best habits every believer ought to imbibe is gratitude. The habit of thanksgiving is the secret of successful men all over the world. You cannot amount to anything in God's kingdom without becoming a thanks- giver for both small and big miracles enjoyed from God.
The Lord Jesus had an encounter with ten lepers in the scripture above. They cried out to Him to have mercy on them and He responded with a miracle instruction of faith,
"go show yourselves to the priests." That was a sign that Jesus had released their healing unto them because according to the law of Moses, a leper could only go to the priest to confirm that he/she had been cleansed of leprosy.
On their way to see the priest(which was an act of faith) they discovered they had been cleansed. While others ran to the priest to receive approval and be re-united back to their loved ones; one of them got it right. Instead of going to the priest, he returned to Jesus first and gave thanks for the manifestation of the spoken word.
Thanksgiving is looking back and saying 'thank you Jesus' rather than being ungrateful or selfish and looking for more miracles. Many believers have missed it by becoming so miracle conscious that they would rather ask for more instead of thanking Him for that which He has done.
Look at Jesus reaction "Then Jesus asked, Were not [all] ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was there no one found to return and to recognize and give thanks and praise to God except this alien? And He said to him, Get up and go on your way. Your faith (your trust and confidence that spring from your belief in God) has restored you to health." (Luke 17:17-19 AMP).
Jesus expects your thanksgiving for that which you already received. High praise and thanksgiving please God.
"...turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus' feet, so grateful. He couldn't thank him enough..."
Thanksgiving begins with a shout of joy announcing God's goodness. Many of us only shout when we are in pain but keep quiet when God has answered. No wonder the Bible says,"MAKE A joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!" (Psalm 100:1 AMP)
Today's Response.
Shout unto God with a shout of joy in praise for His goodness and mercy this year.
