TODAY'S DEVOTION.PURITY BEGINS WITH YOUR THOUGHTS.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE.“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8 KJV).
Every human being is born with a “flesh”(this is the human nature that was corrupted when Adam and Eve sinned). They gave in to temptation and let sin and the curse that followed enter their lives. As a result, human thoughts turned from serving and loving God to living selfishly for themselves.
You have inherited that nature synonymous with unforgiveness, discouragement and filthy thoughts. All these thoughts come straight from your flesh. They are part of the human nature. Uncomfortable as this insight is, most people will eventually accept it as a part of life. “I’m only human, after all!” Many think that as long as it remains a thought, it’s not so bad after all, I’m not hurting anyone else. However, Jesus Himself makes it very clear that this is not the case.
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28). Therefore, giving in to the thought of sin is just as much as a physical action. This also applies to other sins like anger, criticism, jealousy and discouragement as well as any sin you give in to in your thoughts!
James 1:14-16 says it is our own desires (lusts in the flesh) that cause us to be tempted. A temptation is the desire in the flesh making its presence known, usually as a thought or feeling.Salvation gave power to stop feeding the thoughts of the flesh and start feeding the spirit with the Word of life. Therefore purity starts from the mind (the thought realm). This year, take control of your thoughts and you will easily live in purity and overcome sin as a believer.
TODAY'S PRAYER.
Thank you Father for the understanding of your word. Help me overcome evil thoughts by feeding on your word for my divine empowerment by purity this year.
