Eli was sitting on his stool beside the road keeping vigil, for he was extremely worried about the Chest of God. When the man ran straight into town to tell the bad news, everyone wept. (1 Samuel 4:13 MSG) There are different enemies of praise but one major one is spreading bad news! You do not give God glory when you are a bearer of evil news. As praise instruments you must make a habit of telling people things that bring praise and thanksgiving. Make a habit of "carrying the child out of the bowl and throwing the dirty water away." In our opening scripture, a man came from the war front where Israel had just lost a battle.The ark of covenant had been taken and the two sons of prophet Eli died. He gave an evil report without wisdom and the first thing the the evil report did was bring sorrow and pain,"everyone wept"....

If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. (Malachi 2:2 KJV) When you refuse to give God glory by praising Him, blessings become curses. When you praise God,He increases your blessings. Giving glory to His name takes shame away from you and your loved ones. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. (Romans 8:7 MSG) You cannot focus on yourself or the problems of life and be able to praise God effectively. Praise is a sign that your focus is on Him and Him alone. When God is your focus you will praise Him no matter what you are going through. Focus determines strength.  Many of us waste our time and energy on unprofitable ventures and do not praise God enough. If God is your focus, you will praise Him with all your strength. The only reason why we fail to enter God's presence is because of our divided focus. For we have seen His star in the east at its rising and have come to worship Him." (Matthew 2:2 AMP). The birth of the Lord Jesus Christ is a unique event in world history! Apart from His earthly parents, the first set of people who knew about His birth were not mere men but 'wise men'. Wisdom made them prophetic in their approach to Christmas. The first wisdom they received was seeing 'the star'. You cannot see the star when you look down i.e their eyes were lifted up. The difference between wisdom and foolishness is focus. TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:"To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified". (Isaiah 61:3 KJV) Without the glorious 'garment of praise' you are exposed to the vices of life such as sickness,set-back,delay, disappointment, attacks, poverty, etc. God expects you to turn your mourning to dancing through the instrument of praise in Zion. With the Spirit of praise you are not permitted to mourn in Zion. When they say there is a casting down you shall say there is a lifting up. TODAY'S SCRIPTURE ."The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican." (Luke 18:11 KJV). There are good ways to praise God and also wrong ways of doing it. Indeed high praises open doors before God but the man in the verse above praised God and his door was closed. Why? Because he did it in a wrong way. Never praise God in an attempt to intimidate and condemn others. Do not ever engage in praise and thanksgiving to show you are better than people around you. High praises ought to be with a deep sense of humility to God i.e it is by grace and not by your own effort. When your praises makes people get offended at God as if God is partial it is wrong.
